Located only 6 miles southwest off Mt.Desert Island, home to Acadia National Park, this island of roughly 7,000 acres feels like stepping back in time with its tight-knit fishing community, beautiful harbors, and spectacular scenery found in and out of every cove. We’ll spend five days exploring the meandering shore line of the island as well as branching out to the smaller nearby islands. Of course, Mother Nature will determine our route each day and if she acts up, we’ll have the chance to explore the island’s 27 miles of road by bike, hike the trails on foot, or simply kick back on the deck with a good book, a glass of wine, and enjoy the breath-taking view of Acadia National Park in the distance.
Our home for the week is a quintessential New England farmhouse situated in a field of apple trees in a quiet and peaceful setting. The farmhouse has two complete bathrooms that will be shared with others in the group. A short walk along the field path on the property brings us down to the cobblestone beach and our launch spot for kayaking. Highlights of the island include a paddle to Burnt Cove Harbor Lighthouse, with its 35’ high tower boasting tremendous views, a Lobster and Marine Museum, an island market for those essentials you may need, and a granite quarry now a popular swimming hole.
All levels of paddlers are welcome to join this trip and as always, H2Outfitters will be on hand to provide instruction and coaching on paddling technique and tips. Have a significant other that doesn’t paddle but would like to come? No problem, there is plenty to enjoy without being on the water.
Space is limited so if you are interested I recommend booking soon.
