This 2 hour outdoor workshop will focus on both bracing and the Eskimo Roll. Once one has mastered the boat & body mechanics and timing of the high brace, the transition to the Eskimo Roll becomes that much easier. By working repeatedly on the brace first, you will develop a muscle memory and familiarity with paddle and boat placement that is an integral part of the Eskimo Roll. Once you are upside down in the kayak, and guided through the movements by our instructor, you will feel and understand the connection between the brace and the roll. In addition, you will have the opportunity to work on Eskimo Rescues, which if done correctly, also reinforces the muscle memory and body/boat positioning you need to succeed in the Eskimo Roll. There will be lots of underwater time as well as above water time throughout the workshop. We will teach this workshop on a freshwater pond in Brunswick, which will be a lot warmer than the ocean.
This is a very structured, comprehensive program in which the instructor will work with you on developing key components of the Eskimo Roll individually, and then help you to incorporate those components into the Eskimo Roll. Even if you don't get the roll at the end of the workshop, you will come away with solid bracing skills and an awareness of what is needed to perform the Eskimo Roll.
