Midcoast Expedition - Penobscot Bay to Acadia National Park
Join us on this 6-day expedition paddling across Penobscot bay, Blue Bay, and into Frenchmen's Bay, a distance of approximately 65 miles. This section of the Maine Coast is known as the island complex, and as implied, there is an abundance of islands that break up the bays. These spruce-covered islands are bordered by large granite boulders worn smooth by the sea and intermittent sandy pocket beaches, great for landing and launch generally at the time of high tide. Distances each day will range from 2 miles to 20 miles and the route we choose to follow will be determined each day based on weather and sea conditions. Early morning starts for the longer days will enable us to cover distance while the seas are calm, and then enjoy the islands when the sea breeze kicks up in the afternoon. Hearty, healthy gourmet meals will provide the sustenance needed for that next long day. There will be some open water crossings ranging in distance of 1-2 miles and lots of paddling amongst the island archipelago just off of Stonington.
